The Position
The Freight Coordinator will be responsible for the logistical coordination of all outbound shipments. This includes communication with 3rd party carriers from product shipment to final destination while balancing freight costs, monitoring transit times and internal operations schedules, and expediting shipments as needed.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Manage and coordinate all outbound shipments
Route freight with most cost-effective carrier and ensure customers receive required documentation on time
Point of contact between third party carriers and Good Sense Foods providing load tender instructions and ETA requirements
Create pick lists, BOL, shipping labels, order reports, and customer invoices
Maintain excellent external/internal communication related to specific PO’s
Anticipate logistics disruptions and promptly advise appropriate personnel regarding possible shipment delays or issues
Assist with investigation and resolution process of all origin and destination demurrage and detention claims
General understanding of service level and logistics cost metrics
Maintains understanding of DC operations responsibilities (Crossdock, backhaul, routing, receiving, selection, etc.)
Maintains a thorough knowledge of GMP processes with regards to food grade products and ensures food safety during transportation
Assist Distribution Manager with special projects when necessary
Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
Manage difficult customer/freight situations, and respond promptly to customer needs
Deals with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
Must be able to work efficiently and meet deadlines in a high energy, fast paced environment
Prioritize and plan work efficiently
Monitor inventory and process shipments into and out of contracted exterior warehouses.
Help as needed in warehouse to check customer orders, pick orders, verify inventory as needed.
Qualifications
Essential
Minimum 5 years’ experience in an LTL freight management role, preferably in a manufacturing setting
Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines in a high energy, fast paced environment
Effectively communicate with external vendors, customers, and all members of the organization
Proficiency with ERP system, warehouse management systems and transportation management systems.
Proficient in using Microsoft Office software suite (especially Microsoft Excel)
Desirable
Some College, preferably in supply chain management
Bilingual English – Spanish
Forklift experience
Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or GED
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sit for extended periods of time,
Ability to type, talk and communicate both written and verbally and use telephone system
Visual ability to use a computer and calculator
Ability to move around facility with occasional bending and lifting to 50 pounds

Typical office environment, inside climate controlled, shared office space.
